Minnie Boult who
married Charles Taylor in 1922 was one of the children of George
Edwin Boult and Amy Hurved. We pick up the Boult family in 1784.
First Generation
John Bolt is the earliest member of the family I have traced so far.
John was born in Aylesbeare, Devon in 1784. When he grew up he became the
blacksmith in nearby East Budleigh. John married Juliana
from Venn Ottery (another small local hamlet).
John and Juliana had three children that we know of: Elizabeth, Herman,
and Willimina. One suspects that Juliana may be of foreign extraction due
to the unusual names chosen for the children. However, there is no evidence
of this at the moment.
Second Generation
Herman Boult was born in East Budleigh, Devon in 1818. He was married
to Maria. They spent the early part of their life in East Budleigh.
At some point prior to 1851 (probably in the 1830s) they moved to Heavitree.
The 1851 Census shows the family at 11 Parkfield Place, Heavitree. Herman
was working as a Farm labourer.
By the time of the 1881 census he was a General Labourer.
Third Generation
Herman and Martha had eight or nine children (that we know of) Henry
John(1836). George P.(1838), Walter H.J.(1841), Allendo
P.(1844), Harriett B.(1846), Herman Thomas(1849), Thomas(?),
Stanley (1854), and Edwin (1862). It is not clear at present
whether Herman Thomas, and Thomas were two separate children or the same
person. All of the children were born in Heavitree.
At the time of the 1851 Census, George was working as a Baker's servant.
Walter, at the age of 10, was a Dairyman's servant and agricultural labourer.
Allendo was 7, and she was still at school.
According to the 1881 Census Stanley and Edwin were both general labourers.
We don’t know exactly when or where
Thomas was born, though it's reasonable to assume he was born in
Heavitree.
He left Devon for the New World in the early 1870’s. He met and
married another Devonian, Ruth Herbena Farrant (from East
Budleigh). In 1874 they had a daughter Minnie,
and in 1876 they had a son George Edwin, born in Fall River,
Massachusetts. Thomas and Herbena then disappear from the records.

Fourth Generation
George Edwin Boult was living back
in Devon with his grandparents at 9 Park Street, Heavitree by 1881
when the census was taken. His elder sister Minnie is living with
her aunt Julia Farrant in East Budleigh.
We have to assume that Thomas and Arbenia had sent them home
while they went to seek their fortune, or that they had died. (Certainly
by the time George Edwin married, Thomas was "deceased").
George Edwin Boult stayed on, became a journeyman carpenter and
in 1898
married Amy Hurved. They had an extensive family. George
Edwin died in November 1957.

The Hurved (or Hurvid) family came from Sandford,
in Devon. We can trace them back to the late 1700s, to John Hurvid.

Fifth Generation
George Edwin and Amy’s children were Minnie (1899), Ronald,
Leslie, Alfred, Ernest (1905-1999), Emily,
Amy, Walter, Thomas, Stanley John, George.
(Minnie
Boult)
Minnie was born in 1899 and married Charles Taylor
and that story you’ve read already.
Ernest married Florence and had three children. They lived at
Meadow Way in Heavitree where he was an Ambulance Driver and Florence was
a nurse.
Emily married George Bartlett. They had two children Michael
and Eileen.
Amy married Frank Milford. They had one child Dennis.
We don’t know anything about any of the other brothers and sisters.
Sixth Generation
Ernest and Florence’s children were Ray, Terence, and
Brian. Unfortunately Ray died aged about 38, and Terence died at
40.
Brian is hale and hearty living in Courtenay Gardens, Alphington where
he is a hairdresser.
