This is a transcript of a letter from Fr.
John McMenemy to his sister-in-law, Sophia. It was written shortly before
he died. Mary, referred to in the letter, was Sophia's daughter who suffered
ill health throughout her life.

Dear Sophy,
I write this letter to greet you
on your return from Lourdes and I am hoping for the best of news regarding
Mary. I have followed you each day since your departure from London by a
Rosary and other prayers and surely much good must result from all those
pious exercises.
I am not quite well yet - there
still remains a little to be healed up in the injured leg. However I am
able to move about & to attend to most things that demand attention.
Teddie had a good holiday up here
and he told me that he had enjoyed it very much. He returned to London on
the day you left for the pilgrimage and, strange to relate, he has already
written to say that he had arrived safely & is now head over ears in work.
The long talked of decorations
in the Church are now complete & we are about to begin winter with full
steam ahead.
I will await with great eagerness
a full account of your travels, a detailed statement of Mary's health condition,
and any other tit-bits of news that you have to give.
Present my kind greetings to Mary,
to Aileen, and accept my very best wishes for your own good self.
I am
Yours most sincerely,
John
